Mt Richmond / Ōtāhuhu

This small mountain is five minutes drive from the main township of Ōtāhuhu, heading back toward the north along Great South Road (in which case there is a carpark to be found on the right). Alternatively its possible to drive along Atkinson Ave and park near the sports fields.

This area is fascinating to explore, since there are three small peaks and a number of paths between them. Nearest to the main road, the land rises up to a water tower and there are some interesting trees for the kids to climb on. Further back is another small hillock that rises over the rugby fields to the rear. Then its also possible to walk across towards down where you'll find a huge old dead tree and a reasonable sized volcano crater.
